The tiny driver book club was established in 2021 as an interactive part of Ida’s tiny driver newsletter. Every month, we read a book and talk about it over zoom!
The book club switches off between two types of books: (1) books on the writing process & craft, and (2) works of non-fiction and creative non-fiction.
Examples of books on writing include, but are not limited to: Matthew Salesses’ Craft in the Real World and Louise DeSalvo’s Writing as a Way of Healing.
Examples of nonfiction books include, but are not limited to: Lauren Michele Jackson's White Negroes, Cathy Park Hong’s Minor Feelings, and Hanif Abdurraqib’s A Little Devil in America.
You can take a look at the books we’ve read so far here.
The selection process for monthly books is based on the input of tiny driver readers. After each book club, I'll announce a selection of books for the next month through my newsletter, and folks can vote on which they’d prefer. I'll announce the final book choice the week after.
The tiny driver book club is an online book club—we meet over zoom so everyone can join in! Once the book club pick is announced, a zoom registration will be provided for folks to sign up.
We usually meet the last Monday or Tuesday of every month at 5PM Pacific/8PM Eastern. Book clubs typically last about an hour.
I do not want money to be a barrier for anyone who wants to participate. If, however, you have the funds and want to support my work on tiny driver and the book club, feel free to donate anywhere between $3-10 through my Paypal link or Venmo me @idyalz.
